Keep Doing It Wrong.

Some of the best advice you can adopt that I remind myself of each day.

We get what we focus on and it's important to note that this is not about focusing on how to do things wrong.

This is a note to realize that no matter how much planning, training, preparation, advice, reading, tutorials or coaching you receive when you go to step out and act...you will make lots of mistakes.

Doing it wrong is precisely the mechanism for you to grow from.

You couldn't really do it any other way.

You don't improve from your wins - you improve from doing it wrong.

When you finally get it right, you can't help but aim for the next level and then you do that wrong again!

When that next level is ultimately achieved, you then ask...what is next?

The answer is - the next level.

Rinse and repeat.

The process repeats except as you go through higher levels often the mistakes you make are not new ones rather a refining, polishing or tweaking of principles, processes, and fundamentals you've already learned but not yet mastered.

"If you do not make mistakes, you are growing in the wrong direction." VL.

As an example the moment you walk into a dance studio for your very first lesson you're likely to spend the first year as a raw newbie fumbling to keep balance, remember steps and desperately keep up with the music. This was the case for me but for many, many years.

You are consistently and constantly doing it wrong - every single time you dance.

If you stick with it long enough you start to keep on time, your feet start to behave and do what you command and you start to relax and feel comfortable on the dance floor.

Moving from the social dancer, hobbyist, recreational, amateur to professional takes years and the willingness to look bad, be humble in mistakes and do it wrong day after day.

Yet along with that path you are improving, gaining new skills, training your body & brain, learning, and one day you can simply do it without thinking.

This applies to virtually every new skill or craft you want to start.

But not limited to these areas.

It is also how you can learn to improve relationships, health, communication, leadership, and more.

That's why every day I do it wrong yet the quality of my life improves each day from this act of creating something new and something that has meaning to someone else.

It's the reason why stepping out of your comfort zone is not just a platitude it is of utmost importance to the growth of your life.

Choose to be one of the rare few who steps outside their comfort zone and are willing to do things wrong (in a joyful manner) on a daily basis.

Over a lifetime this simple act compounds and you will become a leader in your field but more importantly, you will like the person you become in the process.
